From: Somaliland National Party
Date: 29th July 2012
Not only has the news of your illness been a shock that has confined to the Ethiopian people but equally caught with a sense of deep unease to the Somaliland people with the same degree. In common with the Ethiopian people, the Somaliland people share tense about your illness with their brethren Ethiopia. The Somaliland National party conveys on behalf all the Somaliland to send
their message of wishing you to get well soon, your Excellency, the Prime Minster of Ethiopia.
The Somaliland people are grateful of your courage and determination to have transformed Ethiopia from system, in historical context entrenched with oppression and human rights abuse to a democratic system. With your charismatic leadership, you have the agency to break up this cycle of system that embedded with extreme poverty, diseases, civil wars and famine that had been an iconic name entwined to Ethiopia internationally. In less than twenty years, you turned around your country from being hopeless and poverty-stricken to the fastest growing economy in the sub-Saharan. Your visionary economy and political reforms, including devolution of power, democratisation, taking on inequality, unfairness distribution of natural resources; and passing on ownership to local communities to run their own affairs have been a panacea of the economy and a political success. As a result, the Ethiopian economy has seen a huge growth that emulated to any sub-Saharan country by comparison, and had you not been in power, this success would not have been achieved at the slightest. In refection to this huge achievement, our party in common feeling with the rest of Somaliland people are grateful for the success and prosperity you have led into your country and would like to see a prosperous Ethiopia free of wars and poverty. As being two nations that are interdependent, the benefit of economic Success of Ethiopia trickles down to Somaliland.
Over the past twenty years, the social transformation you adopted has not been completed to get Ethiopia into its final destination. However, as the English proverb says, Rome wasnt built in a day. It is of the view of our party that we are in common with the Somaliland people to accomplish your mission to making Ethiopian not only economically the power house of Africa but also to propagate a fully fledge democratisation. In converging Ethiopia into a full fledge democratic state, the country will have a system that firewalls from destruction that is inextricably related to the African countries whereby power is exchanged by hands of a fire fight of coups détat . In Historical perspective, Ethiopia was a good Example of this process and as aftermath soaked it into poverty and endless civil war.
As we are all cognisant that the perpetual of the nationhood does not entwine with the indefinite rule of a leader, the exceptional circumstance of Ethiopia necessitates finishing off the onset of democratisation and economic project you instigated. By completing a model of democratisation equivalent to that we have achieved in our country Somaliland over the past twenty years in which hands of power were exchanged democratically by ballot box, it will finally make generation of Ethiopians to feel safe in the unexpected event of the leader of the day falling off power as a natural process of life.
Finally, on behalf of the Somaliland National Party and as well as that of the all people of Somaliland, we wish you get well soon.
Yours sincerely,
Ahmed Abdi Isse, BSc, MSc
